on seed stage technology companies and are often called upon by our portfolio
company management to assist them with:

- Securing additional funding
- Designing strategy and tactics
- Forming strategic partnerships
General Requirements
An exceptional entrepreneur
with the experience and ability to attract and build a management team.
Individuals that have integrity, clear goals, and an ability to adapt
to unforeseen circumstances.
Unique and proprietary
products and services with the potential to achieve rapid growth while
sustaining high gross margins.
Large and growing
markets in which the company's sales can exceed $20 million in 3-6 years.
Geography
Research Triangle Ventures invests primarily in the Research Triangle Park area of North
Carolina. We may also invest in companies in other areas of North Carolina.
Only in exceptional circumstances will we invest outside of the State
of North Carolina.
Industry
We are focused on technology companies. These include software, electronics,
and life sciences technology areas such as biotech, medical device and
medical services.
Stage
We are focused on seed and early stage companies with reasonable initial
capital requirements. We prefer milestone-based financing where the appropriate
amount of capital is deployed to achieve visible, value changing milestones.
Each investment that
Research Triangle Ventures makes must offer the prospect of being a viable
public company or acquisition candidate. The entrepreneurs must embrace
the concept that venture capital, although long-term in nature, requires
a liquidity event.
