Fred
D. Hutchison Fred Hutchison is a co-founder of Hutchison & Mason PLLC. His practice is focused on venture capital, securities and merger and acquisitions. Fred has represented more than 200 entrepreneurial companies over the years and has worked with some of the Triangle's leading technology companies, including Integrated Silicon Systems, Cree Research, Trimeris, SciQuest, Ganymede, Accipiter, OpenSite Technologies and Icagen. Fred was the founding President of the Council for Entrepreneurial Development, the largest entrepreneurial support organization in the country. He has also served in the past as the Chairman of the Greater Raleigh Chamber of Commerce, the Chairman of the Business Innovation Technology Advancement Center (an incubator for early stage companies) and the founding Chairman of The Sports Council. Most recently he has served as the Chairman of the Triangle Community Foundation and Co-Chairman of the Entrepreneurial Advisory Committee for the Catalyst Project, whose goal is to increase the level of permanent philanthropic giving within the community. The Greater Raleigh Chamber of Commerce, the Council for Entrepreneurial Development and the North Carolina Electronics and Information Technology Association have recognized Fred's community and legal services. Fred has been recognized as one of the Best Lawyers in America. He is regularly recognized by Business North Carolina as one of the best corporate lawyers in the State. Electronic Business magazine recognized him in 1990 as one of the top 10 technology lawyers in the country. Fred earned a B.S. in Business Administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1971 and his law degree from the University of Virginia in 1975.

Tim is a senior partner with the accounting firm of Hughes Pittman & Gupton, L.L.P., which was founded in 1983. He has over 30 years of experience in public accounting and financial consulting. Tim's practice is centered on entrepreneurial businesses that include owner-managed businesses and investor-financed technology companies in the Triangle. Tim was previously with KPMG Peat Marwick in Fort Lauderdale, Florida for nineteen years, for nine years of which he served as an audit partner. Tim has worked with some of the Research Triangle's leading technology companies including Red Hat, SciQuest, Trimeris and Ganymede. Tim is currently a co-founder and start-up chief financial officer for Alphavax, Inc. a pharmaceutical vaccine company located in the Research Triangle area. He also serves as a senior financial advisor to Cropsolution, Inc. and Sicel Technologies, Inc. Tim served as the start-up chief financial officer for Trimeris, Inc. and Inspire Pharmaceuticals, Inc., both of which are now public biopharmaceutical companies. Tim was a co-founder and start-up chief financial officer for SARCO, Inc., a combinatorial chemistry company that was sold to a public company in 1997. Tim was the chairman of the Council for Entrepreneurial Development in 2000/2001. He is Director and Treasurer of the North Carolina Bioscience Organization, and a director of Communities in Schools of Wake County. Tim is an advisor to Hatteras HBM, a venture fund focused on clinical stage biopharmaceutical companies. Tim earned a B.S. in Business Administration (Beta Gamma Sigma) from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1972 and attended the Harvard Executive Education Program for KPMG Partners in 1985

Bud has a total of 27 years experience in technology, which includes 11 years at SAS Institute, Inc. Bud has led the software development efforts at two start-up software companies and is intimately familiar with the start-up company environment. Bud has been an active angel investor and has held interim positions of CEO and CTO of his portfolio companies. Bud is individually a member of TriState Investment Groups III and IV and The Atlantis Group, both Research Triangle Park-based groups of angel investors. Bud is also individually a member of Charlotte Angel Partners, a Charlotte-based group of angel investors. Bud currently serves as a member of the Board of Directors for Gentris Corporation, Noverant, and LiveWire Logic. Bud was formerly a member of the Board of Directors at SmartPath, recently acquired by DoubleClick (NASDAQ: DCLK). Bud is a Board Observer for LVL7 Systems, Tranzyme and Ziptronix. Bud earned a B.S. in Applied Mathematics from North Carolina State University in 1978.

Sam has been providing strategic, operational and financial guidance to large and small companies for the past ten years. At RTV, Sam focuses on deal evaluation and recommendation, portfolio company management and supports fund management. Prior to Research Triangle Ventures, Sam was a Founder and Director of Strategy for Exervio Consulting. Prior to Exervio, Sam spent seven years with GE in roles of increasing responsibility, including numerous merger and acquisitions and three years with the GE Corporate Audit Staff. Sam holds an MBA from UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School (Beta Gamma Sigma) in 2003 and a BS in Aerospace Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute (Honors) in 1993.
