Investment Process

We welcome business plans and ideas from entrepreneurs and their advisors. We also actively seek proposals from university technology transfer officers. All information that we receive is treated in strict confidence. Plans are reviewed initially to determine that the proposed investment is appropriate for the Research Triangle Ventures portfolio. After this determination, one or more of our partners will then meet with company management to learn more about their business plan and to discuss the Research Triangle Ventures investment philosophy. It is important that both Research Triangle Ventures and the prospective company management have shared objectives. Due diligence is the in-depth assessment of the prospective company's markets and products and, most importantly, a thorough review of the background of the founders and management team. This is an interactive process, requiring a substantial commitment from both the company and Research Triangle Ventures. With the decision to invest, Research Triangle Ventures and company management will agree on the terms of the investment, outlined by a "term sheet". Attorneys then draft an agreement incorporating those terms and helping us to meet our responsibility as fiduciaries for our limited partners, while satisfying the entrepreneur's long-term objective for financial success.

If you are interested in presenting your company to Research Triangle Ventures, please email an executive summary or business plan.
